Years ago we were talking about child friendly workplaces. Many companies now seem to have this piece right as they realise the importance of retaining talent. Now lets focus on being age friendly too.
What is an age-friendly world? It is a place that enables people of all ages to actively participate in community activities. It is a place that treats everyone with respect, regardless of their age. It is a place that makes it easy to stay connected to those around you and those you love. It is a place that helps people stay healthy and active even at the oldest ages. And it is a place that helps those who can no longer look after themselves to live with dignity and enjoyment.
The World Health Organisation has identified Eight domains which might influence the health and/or quality of life of older people. These domains are:
• Outdoor spaces and buildings
• Social participation
• Respect and social inclusion
• Civic participation and employment
• Communication and information and
• Community support and health services.
Do you think Australian Cities are Age Friendly? At WCD – Workers' Compensation Solutions, we think organisations have a fair way to go to get the employment piece right for mature workers. Some have started a journey and are doing a great job.
